Com o tema "A Iminência das Poéticas", sem grandes artistas ou polêmicas, o principal destaque desta edição é a ligação com outros museus da cidade. Entre eles estão o MASP, Museu de Arte Brasileira da Faap e o Instituto Tomie Ohtake. Pontos turísticos de São Paulo, como a Avenida Paulista e a Estação da Luz, também recebem instalações e eventos.
A Bienal ficará em cartaz até o dia 9 de dezembro. A mostra recebe 111 artistas neste ano, sendo 21 deles brasileiros. Cerca de 75% das obras são inéditas e foram criadas especialmente para o evento ou estão sendo expostas pela primeira vez.
